Contact our office immediately if you break or if any of the appliances are loose. Even if you have scheduled a regular appointment, call us immediately to inform us of the issue so we can allow enough time for the repair.
Loose Brackets or Bands
Contact us promptly for advice if your bracket or wire gets loose. Your bracket may require to be re-fitted. The situation may be of slipping a bracket off a wire or the wire cut at night. In that case if you have to cut a wire, please call our office on the next business day, to get an appointment for yourself. However, if this happens over the weekend, then please leave a detailed message with your contact number on our office answering machine to allow us to contact you.
Loose or Poking Archwires
Often, the discomfort is caused by a wire on your braces that can be easily resolved by moving the wire from the irritated area with a cotton swab. If the wire does not move, then try covering its end with a little amount of orthodontic wax and contact our office immediately to schedule an appointment to reposition your wire.
Never worry if you lose a separator, just call our office to see if you need a replacement.
Sore Teeth or Sore Gums
During your first week, if your teeth are still sore you can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help with the pain. Also, rinsing your mouth with a cup of warm water and a teaspoon of salt will help as well.
